Mario Samm, 22, of Frederick, on Friday, April 14 was found guilty of second-degree murder of 25-year-old Jahandar Darvish, the Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy said.

The charges stem from an incident that happened inside Darvish's apartment, on the 19300 block of Circle Gate Drive in Germantown on Dec. 23, 2021, in which Samm fired seven rounds from two firearms — hitting the victim three times, McCarthy said.

One of the other bullets went through the floor into an apartment unit below. There were no additional injuries.

Instagram videos uncovered during the investigation show Samm dancing with one of the guns believed to have been used in the shooting.

Darvish had apparently been working as a rapper under the name Echalty. His Instagram page includes several photos of him holding stacks of cash.

The rapper was remembered in an outpouring of support as being sweet and caring.

Samm faces up to 60 years in prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Sept. 19.
